Description
MUNICIPIA is the multilingual interactive telematic network among local actors of european cities promoted by an international consortium of organisations operanting in the field of urban research and technological innovation.

Through MUNICIPIA key local actors and urban decision makers can exchange information on their respective cities, especially in connection with innovative initiatives undertaken at local level.

Activities
MUNICIPIA sets out to create an interactive telematic network using a low-cost technology (Internet's World Wide Web). By promoting and popularising the use of ICT, MUNICIPIA enables city actors and local decision makers to share opinions and innovative experiences in matters pertaining to the government of urban areas. MUNICIPIA aims to be a point of reference in the Web for European cities by acting as a meeting-point for cities. Moreover, it is also a database that can be consulted by international investors on the lookout for the best places to put their money and therefore is a powerful urban marketing tool available to participating cities. The heterogeneous nature of society and the potential of the Web's hypertext technology encourages a wider and more diverse approach to urban policy. This process is further facilitated by the contribution of the participating cities, who supply additional information.
